I just found out the older thread bearing the same subject is nearly 3 years old. At first I thought was a bit odd since I remembered it as being one of the last succesful threads. But then I remembered it was also one of the last threads ever to be posted.
Anyways, what are you people doing nowadays?

I think I already mentioned my doings here a couple of weeks ago.

After not receiving the grant I applied for I got kicked out of the lab I was working in. Since then I've been looking for a different lab which will have me. After no less than five months (don't let anyone tell you academics are fastworking) I finally found another one and I restart working next monday.
My project concerns the communication between bacteria and microchips where we program the bacteria to communicate with the chip by use of synthetic biology. All very interesting and cutting edge.

In my personal life I've been together with the "what to send"-girl for over a year now. Things are going great most of the time. Except for the times where I do something stupid. I have to admit though that that doesn't happen nearly as much as I'd have thought. But she is absolutely lovely, the girl of my dreams in so many ways.

In universityland you're already old when you reach my young, tender age of 23. So when my classmembers go out to party with the other (bio)chemical students we tend to stand out because of our gray hairs and bent bodies. But we do it anyway.

After having lived in a dorm for 5 years I'm now living in a house with two of my close friends I met here in uniland. This is quite an improvement for many reasons.

And on another note, I think I tired of the internet lately. Shocked

I'm working as a computer janitor in Prague and looking for a way to be promoted into a position where I can spend less time at the job and more time out of the country (seriously sick of CZ).

Failing that, I'll save up a bit of cash, quit my job, and travel the continent.

Failing both of these, I'll break up with my girlfriend and two kittens and just post on the internet a lot.

Glad to see that all you lot still have hands to do things with, though!

I have a long list of places to visit in Europe. I should've halved this list in the first year of my stay here, but I just can't handle not having a job. It's terrible.

I will visit Belgium eventually. It will be good practice for my French as well, but I still have to visit Germany, France, Portugual, Holland, and Ireland. Maybe there will be cheap flights one day and I'll grab them in time.

Let me know if you're ever in the Czech Republic and I'll show you where all the hobos poop.

Actually, apparently I can get a return flight from Prague to Brussels for about 800 Kc. That's pretty cheap.

..oh wait, no if you are using a sane method of payment it goes up to at least 940 Kc. But still not bad. I was expecting more than 1000.

Anyone have experience with Whizz Air?

it sounds like a marvel comics airway, I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing though

I do live in the dutch speaking part of belgium, but I usually reside close to the language border (I work and live in Leuven during the week, which is close to Brussels)

How hard and how difficult is it to get from Brussels airport to Leuven? Can public transit carry me that far for a simple fare?

Actually, let me check couchsurfers to see if there is anyone offering in Leuven.

Well, there's accommodation available in both Brussels and Leuven, so I can find a sofa to sleep on when the time comes. But I have been putting off studying for ITIL for the last 5 hours now, so I think it's about time I start writing more notes.

God speed Internet Belgian.

I'm at work myself, procrastinating and generaly adjusting to the new environment. Also, I have to hunt signatures for administrative reasons so every once in a while I get up from my desk in a fruitless search for the right people. I can't complain though, it's good for my blood flow.
But now I have to find other people as well in order to know what amount of stuff I have to order, damn slippery labpeople.

Also: good luck studying!

No dutch people in here.
Be sure to buy some cheese and to visit the so called "walletjes".

Cheese and prostitutes, that's the netherlands for you, also, ugly men and freakishly tall women all of them horsefaced. This country is also the only country in western europe where men still wear moustaches outside of porn.

A bad moustache is a good moustache, though.

I only found out now that I cannot buy flight tickets online with my bank card because it does not have embosses numbers. Why would a physical detail matter for something immaterial like the internet?
