Behavior Paths (cont...)

Bodyguards:

The outer perimeter patrol guard
This guard has a very long patrol path. He starts inside the compound just inside the back gate and walks to the fork in the road. There he pauses before continuing on to the front gate. At the front gate he pauses again, then moves on to the same spot at the fork in the road. From there he moves back to his start position just behind the doors at the back gate. He will repeat this path before and after the Don has been alerted, unless he goes to look for or attack you.

The urinating guard
This is the only guard that shares the same bladder problem that the Don's son and Vito Anguillo have. He has a short patrol path. Starting behind the door on the outer wall just below your start position, he moves to just outside the door to urinate. After that he will go back to the start point and pause for a long moment. From there he will move to the steps at the kitchen entrance and pause. From there he will move back to the start point and pause before going to urinate again. He will repeat this path before and after the Don has been alerted, unless he goes to look for or attack you.

The guard just inside the front door
Once the flowers that the mailman carries are delivered to the maid, by 47 disguised as the mailman or the mailman himself. The maid will start her own path and this guard will follow her to the room where the staircase in the east wing is. There he will pause to watch her go up the stairs then walk back to the hall. This is a one time behavior path, this guard will hold his position in the hall before and after the Don has been alerted, unless he goes to look for or attack you.

The roaming guard
I spent a good chunk of my life trying to find a pattern to this guard's movement (well spent... -Ed.). It appears that he has eight points on the map he travels to on set paths, but there is no pattern as to what point he will travel to next. The start point for all his patrols is the top of western staircase to the pool\courtyard area in the rear of the villa. From this point there are seven points he will travel to along set paths.

Point 1: From start he will move to just outside the door of the kitchen entrance, by way of the double doors to the south of the pool, the L-shaped hallway and the kitchen. He will pause for a moment, then move back to the start point by way of the hallway opposite the kitchen entrance doors. This is a one way circular patrol, meaning that the path he walks to the kitchen entrance point is not the path he will walk back to the start point. And the path he takes back to the start point will not be the way to the kitchen entrance point.

Point 2: From the start point he will move to the area where Vito and the Don's son stand on the other side of the pool, by way of the most direct route. He will pause for a moment, then move back to the start point by way of the exact path he took to get there.

Point 3: From the start point he will walk down the stairs and across the backyard to the eastern corner and pause then move back to the start point the exact way he traveled there.

Points 4, 5, 6 and 7 are all upstairs points. Occasionally, this guard will go upstairs - it happens far less than the downstairs points, but there is one time he always goes upstairs. Just after the maid delivers the flowers to the Don's office you will find the roaming guard moving to a point on the balcony outside the Don's office. There is only one way this guard moves to the points upstairs. From the start point he will enter the outside door closest to the study then go through the door at the opposite end of the room to the staircase in the east wing. Upstairs none of his points will take him in to the boss' bedroom or the lawyer's office. See the map for the points he travels to on the second floor. From any point he travels to on the second floor he will always travel back to the start point the exact way he got there. Remember I found no pattern to the points he travels to, only patterns of the paths.

The 2nd floor patrol guard
There are only three guards stationed on the 2nd floor and only one of them moves. The guard stationed at the top of the staircase in the east wing will move to the hallway that bypasses the boss' office by way of the most direct line. This patrol happens regularly but the guard spends most of his time at his start point, and when he does move to the hallway it's only for a short pause. He travels back to his start point the exact way he got there.

The three guards in the room adjacent to the kitchen
These three guard are the reinforcements for when the Don is alerted. When no alert is sounded they will stay stationary in that room. When the alert is sounded all three will run out of the kitchen entrance door. One will run to reinforce the two guards at the front gate and the other two will run to the fork in the road. Once at their new points they will remain stationary once again. The three guards' paths to their stations are not marked on the map due to their simplicity.
